CosmoCol Lemon & Lime Flavour – 30 Sachets
CosmoCol Lemon & Lime Flavour is a laxative used for the treatment of long-term constipation and faecal impaction (persistent constipation, where a large volume of stools causes a blockage of the rectum and/or colon). It is not recommended for children below 12 years of age. Macrogol 3350 makes your faeces softer and easier to pass, giving you relief from constipation. The electrolytes (salts) help to maintain your body’s normal levels of sodium, potassium and water while you are being treated for constipation. -
How to take CosmoCol Lemon & Lime Sachets
Always take this medicine exactly as described in the patient information leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
Treatment of chronic constipation in adults, children (aged 12 years and above) and the elderly:
The recommended dose for constipation is 1 sachet taken 1-3 times daily.
This course of treatment for constipation should not normally last longer than 2 weeks. If you need to take CosmoCol Lemon & Lime Sachets for longer, please see your doctor. If your constipation is caused by an illness such as Parkinson’s disease or multiple sclerosis (MS), or if you take medicines that cause constipation your doctor may recommend that you take CosmoCol Lemon & Lime Flavour for longer than 2 weeks. If you need to take CosmoCol Lemon & Lime Sachets for longer, please see your doctor. Usually for long-term treatment the dose can be lowered to either 1 or 2 sachets a day.
Treatment of faecal impaction is adults, children (aged 12 years and above) and the elderly:
Before you take CosmoCol Lemon & Lime Sachets for faecal impaction, your doctor must check to conform that you have this condition. The recommended dose is 8 sachets daily, all of which should be consumed within 6 hours for up to 3 days if required. If you have a heart condition, do not take more than 2 sachets in any 1 hour.
To prevent further problems from faecal impaction, your doctor may advise that you continue taking this medicine. You should use the dose for treating chronic constipation.
The course of treatment for faecal impaction should be stopped when a large volume of stools is passed and does not normally last longer than 3 days.
How to mix
Open the sachet and pour the contents into a glass. Add about 125ml of water to the glass. Stir well until the powder has dissolved and then drink it. If you are taking CosmoCol Lemon & Lime for faecal impaction it may be easier to dissolve 8 sachets in 1 litre of water.
If you take more CosmoCol Lemon & Lime than you should
This can cause severe pain and swelling in your abdomen, or vomiting or diarrhoea. If this happens, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
If you forget to take CosmoCol Lemon & Lime
If you forget to taker a dose, take it as soon as you remember and then continue on as before. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.
If you stop taking CosmoCol Lemon & Lime
To get the most benefit from CosmoCol Lemon & Lime, always finish the course of treatment according to the directions in the patient information leaflet. This will make sure that your constipation is cleared, otherwise the symptoms you are suffering may persist.
You must contact a doctor if your symptoms worsen or do not improve after 14 days.

Side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Stop taking CosmoCol Lemon & Lime and tell your doctor immediately if you have:
- A serious allergic reaction which causes difficulty in breathing or swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat.
- Signs of a change in your body’s fluid or electrolyte levels such as swelling (mainly the ankles), shortness of breath, feeling weak, increasingly tired or increased thirst with headache.
Other side effects include:
- Allergic reactions which may cause a skin rash, itching, reddening of the skin or a nettle rash.
- Sometimes you may have indigestion, stomach ache or rumbles. You may also feel bloated, suffer from wind, feel sick or vomit, may also experience soreness of the anus (bottom) and may have mild diarrhoea when starting to take CosmoCol Lemon & Lime. These side effects generally get better if you reduce the amount of CosmoCol Lemon & Lime you take.
